Libby Rowe Exhibition

Being here at the Pink art gallery I was able to see the different ways or perspectives in which the word feminine is expressed. Many of the things present here caught my attention especially because of the pink and white contrast. I found it interesting that the gallery was pink considering that the idea presented is about the meaning of feminine. I personally being a female have been subject to the many things presented here. Primarily the representation of pink as a feminine color, has been a socially constructed idea of what a girl should wear. In the other hand, others than females have to be emasculate for wearing it. That is our socially constructed idea of what pink is. An idea that pink equals femininity. In the exhibition present in front of me and of which caught my attention the most was the classic lady like introduction of etiquette. It fascinated me how the piece was interactive considering that most of the galleries are exclusively not interactive (touch). The porcelain cups and plates which formal names I do not know caught my attention. In addition to the placement of the tableware, the written rules of lady like dinner etiquette were fascinating. It stated unrealistic and strict rules by which a girl should follow to be more ladies like. The ottoman right behind the high heels stood out to me tremendously. All the objects where pink in the illustration of the theme of the gallery. The interactive part of this area was the fact that viewers could act out the rules written in the floor. A taped line approximately eight feet was the trajectory of the person to follow. At the end of the pink tape were multiple sets of broken tableware. It made the experience more realistic to me. I personally liked it because it made me feel part of the gallery. I certainly recommend any of my friends to visit this exhibition.
