Week 12: November 14

TIME BASED WORK

Today we worked on Time Based work. We demoed long exposure photographs and painting with lighting. We also started talking about Earthworks and watched a movie about Andy Goldsworthy. And then, we learned about the exciting world of GIF's!

Light Painting!

Here are some inspiring sites with artists using light painting:

Light painting is basically a long exposure photograph. Set your DSLR shutter speed below 1/15. We had the most luck in class between 1/2 and 10".

Earthworks!

Check out the work by this guy. Less a photographer and more a sculptor. Maybe a wizard?

Oh. My. GIF!!

Create a GIF, that appears to be looping continuously.

  • You will need to shoot a videos, under 30 seconds each. (10 seconds is a good start)
  • Follow instructions under the "How To" section
    • Tip: GIFS loop continuously. Meaning they run from beginning to end and then go back to the beginning. And Repeat. Forever.
      • To make it appear seamless, you will need to have similar looking beginning and end frames
Class Demo GIF from a video installation on view at the DMA.
